Research Collage, Inspiration Board, & Trend Board
From a research collage, you can see where the inspiration for a project comes from. Using that inspiration makes it possible to explore related trends in the fashion industry.

Museum/Site Visit Report
After a site viewing at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, I was able to find a theme of space given by the creatures in the deep sea. The main exhibit that caught my attention from the Sant Ocean Hall was the one labeled The Deep Ocean. . Scientists came across the megamouth unexpectedly in 1976, alongside other big and strange creatures like jellyfish and squids. This exhibit creature reminded me of how in fashion there are pieces that also demonstrate this amount of space. With space being one of the seven elements of fashion design, I saw this creature as a garment with space. Space on this exhibit made the creature look as if it was swimming and you were physically apart of The Deep Ocean.

Research Collage
From the theme of space and se of transparency from the museum exhibit, I was able to research the use in fashion today. For my research collage, I used elements from all points of history that demonstrate space in fashion and The Deep Ocean. As many of the creatures discovered in The Deep Ocean are seen as transparent and showing loads of volume, so is the designs of designer Iris Van Herpen that I included in this research collage.

Inspiration Board
The inspiration board demonstrates the different elements and moods found that visually show the theme of space with the volume being created through transparent materials. Colors that inspire me for this trend and on this board are the shades of blues from the ocean, black, and the sheer white/cream color.

Trend Board
The trend that I determined from my research and inspiration is the trend of transparency. After research and inspiration, I was able to see how the similar elements of this trend are shown in fashion today. From the colors, styles, and fabrics, all of these pieces together show how space, volume, and elegance can all be one in the fashion world.
